The objective for week 38 is to go through the villages of Chemin de
Stevenson to take photos not taken due to fatigue and then see those
thrown in the towel. I should take again a picture of the statue of
Stevenson and Modestine. I stopped at the edge of the Allier river
in Langogne.

from Langogne to Col du Goulet, 1452 m

Tuesday September 15th I continued my trip passing through the
villages of Chemin de Stevenson, Cheylard 1'Evêque, Luc, Laveyrune
to stop bivouacking at Pass of Goulet 1452m. I had the joy of seeing
four splendid donkeys, including a long-haired one from Poitou,
being packed in front of the Refuge du Moure. The day was radiant
with an autumn sun.

On Wednesday September 16, I reluctantly left the Pass of Goulet to
descend to Le Bleymard and then to go to Pont-de-Montvert where the
Camisards war began on July 22, 1702 with the assassination of Abbé
du Chayla. Alas Wednesday is market day. I had enormous difficulties
to cross the village without the possibility of parking, I went my
way to St-Jean-du-Gard by making a detour to Florac. The landscapes
of Mont Lozère, the Corniche des Cévennes and the French valley were
unforgettable moments thanks to the harshness and diversity of the
panoramas. However, the narrow roads lack parking for photo stops. I
found a bivouac on a vacant lot on the edge of the D9.

from on the road D9 to Aven Armand
from 2020/09/17 to 2020/09/17
Thursday September 17th I traveled from St-Jean-du-Gard to Aven
Armand by the Corniche des Cévennes on the D9 roads to Tortues
Branchées then the D996 to Aven Armand. As Jean Ferrat sang, "Que la
Montagne est belle" (How beautiful the mountain is). I arrived at
the opening, 10.00, of the Aven Armand ticket office,
here.
The first departure of the guided tour was at 10.15 am and the return around
11.30 am. After a descent in the funicular the path is strewn with
around 200 steps. At the exit of the funicular a quick introduction
is made by Jules Verne in video with his journey to the Center of
the Earth. The guide comments on the room discovered in 1897 by
successively illuminating the different concretions and by
projecting surrealist short films of imaginary underground flora and
fauna. It was an enchantment of vertical structures of various
shapes and colors as Jules Verne described them on his journey to
the Center of the Earth, descending into the crater of the volcano,
the Sneffels (now Snæfellsjökull) near Reykjavik, Iceland.
I bivouacked there.

from Aven Armand to on road D110
from 2020/09/18 to 2020/09/18
On Friday September 18th I left the Aven Armand car park around 8.00
am to drive through the Gorges de la Jonte,
here,
from Meyrueis to Peyreleau by the D 996 on a senators'
train, 30km / h, to admire the cliffs under the rising sun. Same
remarks as previously, no or little parking for photo stops. I
arrived around 10.00 at Chaos de Montpellier le Vieux,
here,
The city of stones. The brochure given at the entrance
with the ticket lists six hikes of 30 to 50 minutes. My physical
condition did not allow me to practice them. I opted for a guided
tour with the 50-minute train. Then around 12.20 I was looking for a
wild campsite around the D110 before arriving in Millau.

from 2020/09/19 to 2020/09/19
Saturday, September 19 morning before leaving, circling my truck I
had the unpleasant surprise to find that the right rear wheel was
almost flat. After checking the valve was 2/3 cut at the base of the
rim. So I had to change the wheel. The operation lasted nearly three
hours, tidying up and various checks. There were two bits of bravery
that caused me a lot of worry, first loosening the wheel bolts that
had been tightened with a pneumatic screwdriver in Lusaka when
installing four new tires. The wheel spider bought at Vidal Auto in
Draguignan was twisted in the operation! then the installation of
the spare tire. The lowering of the spare wheel from its support
then the raising of the damaged wheel on the support were carried
out with the hoist made by Bernard Giraud. Coming down from the
Causse Noir plateau I took a picture of the Millau Viaduct,
here,
in the distance overlooking the city. The Total service station told me
about the SiliGom tire repairer, open on Saturday, who promptly
replaced the valve and then reinstalled the wheel in its location.
It was 13.30. Next to Total a car park warmly welcomed me.

from Millau, parking to Aire du Viaduc
from 2020/09/20 to 2020/09/20
Sunday September 20 I reached the viewing area of the Millau viaduct
via the D911 from Millau. The Viaduct expo is open at 10.00 off
season. The morning was particularly foggy until 13.00. The
belvedere offers a striking view of the structure. A video is shown
and interpretive slides of the construction of the viaduct, see also
above the link to Wikipedia. I bivouacked on the spot.
